General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) Opens New Data Center in Support of the Department of Homeland Security

General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) Opens New Data Center in Support of the Department of Homeland Security

FAIRFAX, Va., Jan. 8 2010 -- General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), opened a enterprise data center in Westminster, Colo., to serve as the Technology Operations and Maintenance Infrastructure Support (TOMIS) program's IT operations center on behalf of General Dynamics' customer, the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). General Dynamics was awarded the TOMIS program contract in 2007.

This new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified operations center will meet the need for centralized, around-the-clock nationwide information technology (IT) enterprise service support with enhanced network and security monitoring. The facility will employ approximately 100 skilled IT workers when fully staffed including service desk agents, IT security specialists, network engineers, systems engineers and system administrators for DHS as well as other GD clients. This is in addition to the jobs created during the construction and design of the facility.

"The mission of our customer is challenging and extremely important to the country," said S. Daniel Johnson, president of General Dynamics Information Technology. "As the agency within the Department of Homeland Security that is responsible for overseeing the legal immigration of people into the United States, USCIS is vital in maintaining a secure homeland. The agency processes and verifies applications of those seeking to work and live in the United States, assists those seeking political or humanitarian asylum and manages applications of those seeking foreign adoptions. These functions require a secure, stable information technology infrastructure."

This is General Dynamics Information Technology's first dedicated data center. The company built the facility from the ground up from selecting the building to designing the layout to outfitting the operations center with the latest, state of the art technology for quick and efficient response to customer concerns. The facility has room for expansion to accommodate any future programs that may require round the clock IT support and maintenance.

As a trusted systems integrator for more than 50 years, General Dynamics Information Technology provides information technology (IT), systems engineering, professional services and simulation and training to customers in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, health, federal civilian government and commercial sectors. With approximately 16,000 professionals worldwide, the company manages large-scale, mission-critical IT programs delivering IT services and enterprise solutions.
